Two-sided search and perfect segregation with fixed search costs

چکیده
This paper studies a two-sided search model with the following characteristics: there is a continuum of agents with different types in each population, match utility is nontransferable, and agents incur a fixed search cost in each period. When utility functions are additively separable in types and strictly increasing in the partner’s type, there is a unique matching equilibrium. It exhibits perfect segregation as in Smith [Smith, The marriage model with search frictions, Working paper (1997) Department of Economics, MIT] and Burdett and Coles [Quarterly Journal of Economics, 112 (1997) 141]; i.e. agents form clusters and mate only within them. A simple sufficient condition on the match utility function and the density of types characterizes the duration of the search for each type of agent. The sufficiency of additive separability in the fixed search cost case is explained and contrasted with the discounted case; moreover, the results are generalized to a broader class of search cost functions that subsumes discounting and fixed search costs as special cases. 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. Competitive Equilibria in Decentralized Matching with Incomplete Information
This paper shows that all perfect Bayesian equilibria of a dynamic matching game with two-sided incomplete information of independent private values variety converge to competitive equilibria. Buyers purchase a bundle of heterogeneous, indivisible goods and sellers own one unit of an indivisible good. Buyer preferences and endowments as well as seller costs are private information. Agents engag...
متن کاملA stochastic network design of bulky waste recycling – a hybrid harmony search approach based on sample approximation
Facing supply uncertainty of bulky wastes, the capacitated multi-product stochastic network design model for bulky waste recycling is proposed in this paper. The objective of this model is to minimize the first-stage total fixed costs and the expected value of the second-stage variable costs. The possibility of operation costs and transportation costs for bulky waste recycling is considered ...
متن کاملA New model for integrated lot sizing and scheduling in flexible job shop problem
In this paper an integrated lot-sizing and scheduling problem in a flexible job shop environment with machine-capacity-constraint is studied. The main objective is to minimize the total cost which includes the inventory costs, production costs and the costs of machine’s idle times. First, a new mixed integer programming model, with small bucket time approach, based onProportional Lot sizing and S...
متن کاملSolving the tandem AGV network design problem using tabu search: Cases of maximum workload and workload balance with fixed and non-fixed number of loops
A tandem AGV configuration connects all cells of a manufacturing area by means of non-overlapping, sin-gle-vehicle closed loops. Each loop has at least one additional P/D station, provided as an interface between adjacent loops. This study describes the development of three tabu search algorithms for the design of tandem AGV systems. The first algorithm was developed based on the basic definiti...
متن کاملA search model of two-sided matching with terms of trade
This paper studies a search model of two-sided matching with terms of trade. In a market reside heterogenous sellers and buyers. Agents search for trading partners and meet bilaterally in a random fashion. The question of who trades with whom, besides the terms of trade, must be answered. We seek decentralized market equilibrium with search frictions. We show that the set of equilibria has a la...
